And former goalkeeper Seaman and striker Alan Smith feel it is important a decision is made sooner rather than later.

Seaman said: “At the moment it is the same old same old. I want the club to come out and say what is happening.

Is Arsene going to stay or leave? Just say it. All the unrest that is happening is building and building while nobody knows what is going on.

“I wouldn’t stay if he should stay or go as I have more respect for the guy. He was my coach for six to seven years. We had great, great times there. I will leave it to Arsene.

“But if the club say what is happening then we can all move on. While nobody knows it hurts us.”

Sky Sports pundit Smith added: “I hope he makes a decision soon to give the club the chance to make plans. You can’t tell them in June. And I’m sure he knows that.

“It is March now and a lot of preparation has to go into pre-season. A new manager might want something different. You need enough time to prepare.

“I have said before that it is probably time for a different voice. I would like it to be a mutual decision.

“If it is to end you want it to end in the right circumstances.

“Towards the end, after the Chelsea and Bayern result, it has become a recurring theme.

“Arsene is talking about reinventing himself. Whether he can at his age or management, I don’t know. It is quite difficult to do that. If he could it would please everybody. How the team are with the ball and being harder to beat. He has had a magnificent career and that is why you want it to end in the right way.”
